Vie et Vélo
Vie et Vélo offers cycle tours designed for « ordinary people ». We believe that cycling is the perfect way to immerse yourself in a landscape. Taking the time to discover a new region at a cycling pace provides a unique perspective and we don’t think you should have to be a super athlete to enjoy the experience. We design our tours with reasonable distances and terrain as well as lots of opportunities to stop, relax and explore. After all, a cycling holiday is still a HOLIDAY!
At Vie et Velo, we aim to cater to all levels of cyclists from the timid beginner looking to explore the region in a more intimate way to the active rider looking for a new challenge. We offer independent cycle hire, guided or self-guided cycle tours as well as bespoke bike fitting to ensure you fully enjoy your time on 2 wheels.
Born and raised in Canada, Bruce and Denise have always been passionate cyclists and world travellers. In 2014, they decided to make France their home and founded Vie et Vélo to share their passion for French lifestyle and cycling with visitors to the Languedoc region. Having already managed an international cycle tour business from their previous base in London England, Bruce and Denise chose Languedoc for its sunny climes, its wine, rich cultural history and diverse terrain. Now settled, in the village of Caux in Herault, with their 2 cats and newly adopted puppy, they are still enthusiastically exploring the region on 2 wheels and are continually expanding their cycle tour options as they discover new gems that are just too good not to share.
Bruce says “We are obviously slightly biased, but we think Languedoc is the ideal location for cycling in France. The terrain is extremely varied. We are within cycling distance of the Mediterranean coast and the Canal du Midi, both of which offer scenic, but relatively flat easy pedalling routes. There are quiet local roads meandering through rolling vineyards and olive groves as well as some decent hills nearby if you are looking for a challenge.”
Cycle for Life 2017
This summer, Vie et Vélo is sponsoring “Cycle for Life” 2017 to help raise awareness for Cancer Support France and acknowledge the fantastic work that they do for English speakers in France. Cycle for Life is a fun and accessible 4-day cycling event starting in the medieval city of Carcassonne and finishing in the coastal town of Sête. Over 4 days and in 4 separate stages, the 200km route takes in paths alongside the Canal du Midi, Canal de la Robine and the Mediterranean coast.
Denise explains “We are very excited to be supporting Cycle for Life this year as it not only benefits a great cause, but highlights some of the fabulous cycling to be had in Languedoc. I expect it will be a great event for cycling enthusiasts of all levels. We are here to help make the experience an easy and enjoyable one for all.”
Bruce has been involved in road, and mountain biking since the late 80s inspired by the 1986 Tour de France battle between Greg Lemond and Bernard Hinault. Bruce has a particular interest in biomechanics and is a fully certified Retul bike fitter.
Denise has commuted back and forth to work for more than 20 years on 2 wheels. Before meeting Bruce, cycling was merely an economically and environmentally friendly form of transportation. Now cycling has become a way to explore the world. When not cycling, she spends as much time as possible creating in her glass fusion kiln.
